The Manager of Drogheda Homeless Aid, Maureen Ward, will be spending her birthday on the charity’s Annual Sleep-out fundraiser.
Maureen declined to tell us whether it was a “significant” birthday or not but said that it was a sad fact of life that many people have to sleep rough on their birthday and every other day of the year.
Maureen let the information slip out as the ladies committee of Bellewstown Golf Club called into the Drogheda Homeless Aid house on Friday morning bearing gifts for each of the residents.
The gifts came beautifully wrapped in Christmas hampers which contained really useful items such as toiletries and socks and gloves – that’d be proper pairs of gloves and not the single glove that golfers so often wear.
The Club’s assistant Secretary Audrey Quinn put out a call among the lady members to fill shoe boxes for the 25 residents at DHA and she could hardly believe the generous response she received.
Thanking the ladies for their generosity DHA Manager Maureen Ward said that the items would be very welcome to the residents as the weather gets colder.
Maureen also appealed for more volunteers to come forward to collect donations on the town during the annual sleep- out which takes place on Saturday and Sunday next, 10thand 11th of December.
If you can spare some time, even a couple of hours, over the weekend to help out please call Maureen on 041 – 983 4492.
