Representatives of the Boomerang Youth Centre visited the Drogheda Homeless Aid house on North Strand this afternoon to spread a little Christmas cheer in the shape of a large hamper full of Christmas goodies.
In early November Boomerang staff member Sarah McDonnell, suggested to staff and young people in the Centre, that they spread a little Christmas Cheer by donating some basic items to local charities
The Drogheda Women’s and Children’s Refuge and Drogheda Homeless Aid were identified as the two local agencies who provide vital support to people 24hrs per day – 365 days per year.
“Sarah and the staff in Boomerang have worked hard to encourage donations of clothes, toiletries and toys and we have been overwhelmed by people’s kindness” said Boomerang Manager Carina Culligan.
“Throughout the fun and excitement of Christmas we can sometimes forget that this time of the year can be really difficult for some people and we hope that these small gifts may help to let them know they are not alone.
“We wish the staff in Drogheda Women’s & Children’s Refuge and Drogheda Homeless Aid a very Happy Christmas and in particular those who will continue to provide this vital service through the holiday time when many of us are enjoying time with family and friends
“We sincerely thank those who kindly made a donation and we encourage all to find it in their heart to remember those less well off at Christmas time.”
Thanking the Boomerang Club for their kindness Drogheda Homeless Aid Manager Maureen Ward told Drogheda Life that they would be serving 40 plus dinners to residents in the Homeless Aid house this Christmas day.
They will also be delivering around 15 meals to the Women’s refuge and another 15 to the meals on wheels service.
