You could say that Niamh Madden and her friend Colette Farrell have the Christmas spirit, they REALLY have the Christmas spirit - in bucket loads.
The two friends decided at the beginning of November that this Christmas they would try make this time of year a bit brighter for people who need it.
They started a Facebook page called Stockings for the Streets and asked individuals, shops and companies to donate items such as personal hygiene products and warm clothing such as hats, scarfs, socks and gloves with which they are making up hampers for the homeless and others in need in Drogheda this Christmas.
The response has been fantastic, so much so that they are hoping to make up 50 hampers and will be distributing them in the run up to Christmas to Drogheda Homeless Aid and other worthy causes.
When we met up with Niamh and Colette this week and they told us they have almost reached their target of 50 hampers but more is also welcome.
They are also holding a fundraising evening including a mega raffle in their bokwa fitness class in the Presbyterian Church at Grange Rath on Monday evening December 5th from 7.00 until 9.00 pm.
“Anyone who wants to donate can check out the Stockings for the Streets Facebook page to see how they can donate and help this great cause. Every little helps and the smallest donation can make somebody else's Christmas that bit brighter” says Colette.
