Minister of State Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Ged Nash today visited Drogheda Homeless Aid. Ged took a tour of the building in North Stand Drogheda, accompanied by Manager, Maureen Ward. Two clients of Drogheda Homeless Aid, a current resident and an ex-resident also gave an overview of their time with Drogheda Homeless Aid and their experiences of homelessness. They also depicted how the facility has helped them in their time of need and provided many examples of how the organisation continues to support them toward independent living and availing of new opportunities. Maureen Ward commented, It was important that our local T.D. got to meet with clients, as Ged was able to hear and see at first-hand that the reasons for homelessness are numerous and hopefully saw that we are changing the perceptions surrounding homeless people.
Members of the board of Drogheda Homeless Aid also met with Ged, and were joined by the Chairman of Dundalk Simon, Mr Denis Cahalane for a full discussion on dealing with homelessness and breaking the cycle of homelessness. Ged noted his support for Drogheda Homeless Aid, in terms of provision of hostel and other accommodations and the range of supports it provides.
